Agreement between Saras and the Opera Company for educational concerts in schools
Characters of a fairy tale speak with the voice of musical instruments. Classical music has become an educational game for the pupils of the Santa Caterina primary school (Castello quarter, Cagliari), both spectators and protagonists of the project which for the first time has joined the Saras Group with the Cagliari Opera House Foundation. Saras and Opera House manager Claudio Orazi have signed an agreement that will bring live concerts of great classical music to the schools. The first concert is ‘Peter and the Wolf’, a symphonic fairy tale composed by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936.
The protagonist of the tale is a child, Peter, who with the help of a bird manages to capture a fearsome wolf. Each character is represented by a musical theme, played by a different instrument. The narrator tells the tale while Prokofiev’s music comments each scene, describing the personality, feelings and actions of each character.
None of these nuances were lost on the children, all in the fourth year. At the end of the performance, they asked a number of insightful questions and then took part, rhythmically clapping their hands, in the performance of another piece of music chosen by the Grimm Ensemble to draw children to classical music. The Ensemble has more concerts scheduled: Saturday 6 May, at 10, at Elementary School ‘Santa Caterina’ in Cagliari (via Piceno), Wednesday 10 May at 11 at the Elementary School in Sarroch (via Fermi) and Thursday 11 May at 11 at Elementary School ‘Randaccio-Tuveri-Don Milani’ in Cagliari (‘Nanni Loy’ in via Piero Schiavazzi). The Ensemble is a chamber orchestra of musicians of the Opera House in Cagliari: Stefania Bandino (flute), Viviana Marongiu (oboe), Ivana Mauri (clarinet), Luca Maria Leone (horn), Francesco Orrù (bassoon) and Francesca Ravazzolo (percussions, narrating voice, multimedia).
