Behavioural safety, Sarlux at the European Congress on BBS
‘The key to applying successfully the rules of Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) lies in the commitment of managers, at all levels, which must translate into practical behaviour’. Vincenzo Greco, the CEO of Sarlux, reported on the company’s experience to the XI European Congress on Behaviour Based Safety (BBS), the protocol designed to prevent unsafe behaviour at work. The event was held in Rome on 14 June last. Sarlux has applied the protocol since 2014. This has involved a major training programme tailored according to the workers’ specific tasks and duties.
To maintain the project’s momentum, the Sarlux has set up an organisational structure that helps area managers to address safety effectively through the programme’s activities: data analysis, constant monitoring of safe/unsafe behaviours, maintenance actions and meetings with workers.
The Sarlux programme involves a large industrial complex in the sensitive refining sector. The results after the initial pilot phase and full-scale implementation are very encouraging. Some of the other companies that adopted the protocol and participated in the Congress are Heineken, GE Grid Solutions, Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics, Ahlstrom-Munksjö.
