Devecchi with Saras at Sport senza frontiere

Basketball ace Jack Devecchi and some of his fellow players from Dinamo Banco di Sardegna were Saras’ guest at the closing night of the event ‘Sarroch – Sport without borders’ held on 21, 22 and 23 July at the Marina of Perd’e Sali.

The three-day sporting event, which featured beach tennis, soccer and volley, was dedicated to amateur sports people belonging to the many local clubs. The initiative was organised by the Cral Saras (the company’s leisure club) with the cooperation of the Proloco Sarroch (local tourist promotion office) and the support of the Municipality of Sarroch.

Friday and Saturday, the mixed teams competed in the three sports on the fields set up near the marina’s jetties. Sunday, after the end of the tournament, the small basketball players of Sarroch-based club Redstar took to the court. After some warm-ups, they started a shooting competition. As the competition ended with a draw between a young girl, Elena, and a boy, the boy stepped down and left the cup to Elena, with a nice show of sportsmanship. The young champion received the cup from Devecchi. Together, they then gave the prizes to the winning clubs: the first prize went to ‘AC DENTI’, with players from Gioventù Sarroch and Calcio femminile Sarroch; second prize to ‘Fitness Tennis’, which combined the tennis and taekwondo clubs; the third to two teams from Capoterra.

‘These days have shown that sport brings people together. The presence of a team such as Dinamo, a standard-bearer for Sardinia, makes us very happy’, said Sarroch mayor, Salvatore Mattana during the closing speeches. Next to him were the town’s sports councillor Mirko Spiga, coordinator of the event, Sarlux president Francesco Marini and president of the Saras Cral Antonio Durzu, interviewed by journalist Laura Puddu. ‘Organising an event for all sportspeople in Sarroch was an exciting challenge for us – said Marini – which we took up during the closing ceremony of the Saras Sports Awards. My heartfelt thanks to all those who ensured its success’.
