Environmental Statement 2019

Approved by the Ministry of the Environment, the Environmental Statement reports on the environmental activities, policies and targets pursued by Sarlux, a Saras Group company, to continuously improve its environmental performance.

Being innovative and creating sustainable value, while remaining an integral part of and a point of reference in the community, is the core value of Sarlux operations.

The refinery’s performance data, published in the 2019 Environmental Statement (available here for download) have been validated by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA Italy), which has certified that the environmental data recorded at the Sarlux site complies with the EMAS regulations.

EMAS Sarlux

Since 2008, Sarlux has been registered with EMAS – Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, a voluntary instrument developed by the European Commission to promote sustainable economic development, by helping to improve the environmental performance of companies.

The publication of the annual Environmental Report is an important event for the whole of Sarlux. In a spirit of open and transparent dialogue with citizens, the authorities and stakeholders, the report provides detailed information on our industrial site’s environmental performance.

The environmental performance data recorded in 2018 confirms our commitment to continuous improvement in various areas, including protection of the environment and of workers’ health and safety, as well as our engagement with all stakeholders, especially local ones.

The consolidation of our operations in line with sustainable development is confirmed by the major investment plan underway and by the constant pursuit of innovation, which is a hallmark of the Saras Group.

In 2018, we brought to full scale the pilot projects launched in 2016-17 and continued implementing #digitalSaras, our digitalisation programme which deploys industry 4.0 in terms of both technology and mindset. In addition to implementing several digital technologies to improve staff work and optimise production processes, the plan also involves various aspects of ‘company life’.

The 2019-2022 business plan, includes € 830 million of investments to maintain our operational and technological leadership in the refining industry, while fully practising corporate social responsibility.

The Saras Group is one of the main European oil refining operators, and is also active in the electricity generation sector. Directly and through its subsidiaries, the Group sells and distributes petroleum products on national and international markets. In addition, the Group produces and sells electricity through its subsidiaries Sarlux Srl (IGCC plant) and Sardeolica Srl (wind farm).
