Francesco Marini is the new president of the Confindustria Sardegna Meridionale
Francesco Marini was elected President by the General Assembly of the Southern Sardinia Branch of Confindustria, the Italian Industrialists’ Association, on 15 July 2019 in Cagliari. He was elected on the basis of the consultations carried out by the arbitration committee with the 21 product sections of the association.
Francesco Marini, a chemical engineer who graduated from the University of Cagliari, developed his career within the Saras Group, where he has held a number of positions.
Among other things, he has been the Director of the Sarroch refinery, CEO and Chairman of Sartec and, since 2013, Chairman of Sarlux.
Marini also has a distinguished track record in industry associations. He is President of the Sardinia section of the Italian Association of Chemical Engineers (AIDIC), President of the Register of Environmental Managers of Sardinia at the Chamber of Commerce of Cagliari and Oristano, outgoing Deputy Vice-president of Confindustria Sardegna Meridionale and a member of the boards of several sections of the Association.
Before presenting his programme, Francesco Marini thanked Saras Group Chairman Massimo Moratti and CEO Dario Scaffardi for the trust placed in him within the Saras Group, and recalled with gratitude the regard in which he was held by the deceased Gian Marco Moratti as a manager within the Group.
In presenting his policy programme, Francesco Marini, in continuity with his predecessors, pledged to work to strengthen, promote and spread a renewed and modern business culture, as a condition for kick-starting recovery of the production system of Sardinia.
He stressed the importance of support for industry, whose culture is needed for the success of all systems. Industry is essential for development and economic and social stability, and should not be seen as competing but as working together with all the other sectors: agriculture, tourism and services.
Francesco Marini, together with the new governance team, will hold office for the two-year period 2019-2021.
