Innovation in the Sarlux refinery: robotics for safety

We are the first refinery in Italy and among the first in Europe to test an inspection robot in a real and active refining plant. Until now, such robots, in this specific field, have only been tested in simulated environments.
Starting from mid-September, a team from Baker Hughes (formerly Nuovo Pignone), under the supervision of our technicians, began testing, within the areas of the Sarlux refinery, the automatic robot Anymal, developed by the Swiss company Anybotics, a world leader in the field of robotics.
The main objective of the test is to evaluate the added value that this robot can bring, integrating the data already monitored by the sensors present in the field, with those measured by the “payloads” instruments that are part of the robot’s equipment.
In all phases of the work, Sarlux specialists collaborate with the data management software development teamto identify and implement the algorithms that control “Anymal”, which is then trained “machine learning” based on the principles of artificial intelligence.
All activities are conducted in compliance with the refinery’s safety procedures and standards.
Tests will continue in the coming months, in order to identify the best technological solutions applicable in refining plants.
We are always committed to the issues of safety, innovation, automation, to improve production processes and create skills with the aim of better sustainability.

The Saras Group has been a solid player in the Oil & Gas sector for over sixty years and is active in the production of electricity through Sarlux and Sardeolica.
The Group was recently acquired by the multinational Vitol, a world leader in the energy sector.
