Presentation of the project “Sarroch – Environment and Health”

The data for 2017 of the project “Sarroch Ambiente e Salute” – started in 2006 with the aim of improving the quality of life
of the population of Sarroch – have been recently released.
We are happy to report that the air quality data recorded by the Regional Environmental Agency (ARPAS)
show that all pollutant levels are significantly lower than the maximum allowed threshold.

Air quality outside the plant is controlled in real time by two monitoring networks
(one owned by ARPAS and the other by Sarlux) which identify any variations in the significant parameters
and check that pollutant values are always lower than the legal threshold levels,
so that action can be taken in the event of any anomalies.

We take note of the reports of bad smells in the town of Sarroch. Although this phenomenon is not harmful to health,
we take the issue of odour nuisance very seriously.
We are committed to continued improvement of environmental sustainability of the site.
We are completing major environmental projects and will implement new ones in the future to minimise the release of smells.

In 2017, the company completed a major investment on the cover of the water treatment tanks.
To evaluate its effects, monitoring was performed before, during and after the installation works.
The early monitoring data confirm significant reduction of odour impact.

Moreover, with the support of Sartec we have put in place control systems and conducted an extensive analysis
of the tanks identified as possible sources of bad odours, in order to ensure automated remedial action.
