Prize awards at the Saras Academy Tournament
The young players of the Football Academy too attended the last A League match and cheered the Cagliari team’s victory over Milan.
The young athletes of Ghilarza – winners of the Saras Tournament – received their prizes at the Sant’Elia stadium, between the first and second half of a hard-fought match. Brimming with excitement, the children born in 2006-2007, wearing the yellow and red shirt, lined up towards the centre of the field to receive the prize from Sarlux president Francesco Marini and Daniele Dessena, announced by the speaker.
The young footballers’ event was held at Asseminello on Sunday 21 May. Four hundred children born in 2006-2007, together with sports coaches, families and fans, met at the Sports Centre for the third edition of the ‘Saras Football Academy Tournament’, the highlight of the Cagliari Football Academy 2016-2017 season.
A project with great sports and social value which Cagliari Calcio, with Saras’ support, pursues to contribute to the technical development of partner sports clubs and to assist the growth of young athletes, for whom sport should first and foremost be a ‘training ground for life’. First place went to the newly affiliated Ghilarza football club..

The tournament saw participation of 23 clubs affiliated to the Cagliari Football Academy, from all over the island: Accademia Ogliastra, Antas Calcio, Antiochense 2013, Aritzo, Gsd Assemini, Atletico Bono, Bittese, Cantera Sorso, Cullurgioni Giba, Ex Biancoblù Carbonia, Ghilarza, Polisportiva Isili, Italpiombo Santa Teresa, Juve Luras, Oliena, Oristanese, Polisport Nuoro, Santadi Calcio, San Teodoro, Turritana Porto Torres, Valledoria, Vigor Sporting Capoterra, San Biagio Villasor. Plus one children’s team from Cagliari Calcio.
‘The Saras Football Academy Tournament – remarked project coordinator Oscar Erriu – is the final step in a path we have taken, with Saras’ support, to promote across Sardinia our sports programme and our positive vision of youth football. Along the way, we have held meetings at the pitches of the affiliated clubs, training seminars for coaches and club managers at the Sports Centre in Asseminello and initiatives to reach out to the greatest possible number of children and families.’
