Protection of the Sea: Sarlux at the Seminar held by the Navy

An intense prevention activity using the best techniques and procedures, together with ongoing training of the staff responsible for protection of the sea. These are the mainstays of the sea protection systems put in place by the Saras Group, described by Antonello Cogoni, Head of Handling and Shipping Operations of the Sarlux Company, on 8 July last at the University Campus, during a seminar organised by the Italian Navy. After an introduction by the University Rector, Maria Del Zompo, experts and civilian and military operators addressed various aspects of this theme.
The seminar, part of the training exercise ‘Caralis 2016’, is part of the Navy’s initiatives to ensure readiness of its ships in responding to sea pollution incidents due to spills of oil or other substances. From theory to practice: the following day, the men in uniform tested the system during a sea exercise. As part of the exercise, on board the ship Orione samples of seawater from the Gulf of Cagliari were collected and analysed. Some of the tests were performed using lab equipment made available by Sartec, the Saras Group Esco company, which is also active in the field of environmental monitoring.

During the exercise, the Cagliari Prefecture also activated its own operations room, simulating response scenarios to potential washing up of part of the pollutants on the shore.
