Sant’Efisio, the Saint’s procession passes by Sarroch
The statue of the martyred Saint passed by the Sarlux plants at Sarroch (Cagliari) on the evening of 1 May, on the first of its four-day journey to the Church of Nora, to honour the vow made by the City of Cagliari in 1656 when beseeching the Saint’s protection from the plague.
The statue travels along State Road 195 twice in a few days: first, on the evening of 1 May, after the riot of colours that welcomes the Saint in Stampace on leaving the small church. The procession makes a stop at Giorgino to change the Statue’s clothes and chariot, and sets off to Pula, stopping at Su Loi, at a small church in the municipality of Capoterra, and at Villa d’Orri, the residence of the Marquis Manca di Villahermosa, before stopping for the night at Sarroch. The next morning, the small procession sets out again, stopping at Villa San Pietro before reaching its final destination at Nora, at the small church dedicated to the Saint, built at the site where he was martyred on 15 January 303 AD.
On the journey back, on 4 May, the Saint is greeted by the workers of the Sarroch site with a banner hung on the overpass of State Road 125.
