Saras for the local community: promoting skills development and employability

The Saras Group is providing methodological and technical-scientific support to the training project for “Electrical and instrument technician” project organised by the Municipality of Sarroch and the Italian Industrialists’ Association – Sardinia Branch (Confindustria Sardegna Meridionale), in partnership with Employment Agency Etjca, Training Agency Gap and leading electrical equipment companies ESO, COSATEC and SITIE.

Given the employment opportunities offered by the sector, the quality of the classroom teaching and practical workshops, this initiative is a tangible example of a training programme based on the actual needs of the labour market and meeting the labour demand generated by the Group’s investment programmes in the Sarlux industrial site.

Course participants who successfully complete the course are then offered a work placement period in the partner companies to practice the skills they have learnt.

The representatives of the partner entities have stressed that this initiative provides a high added value opportunity, particularly useful for overcoming the existing gap between the workers available in the local market and the specialist figures sought by companies.

Sarlux has contributed its expertise to the training scheme and is excited that it was able to share effectively its industrial culture with the new generations.

One of the fundamental values for the Saras Group is to create sustainable value; a company is truly sustainable when, in addition to its commitment to protecting the environment, it boosts employment opportunities in the area in which it operates.

The objective is now to encourage the development of other similar initiatives, in order to respond more effectively to the real needs of businesses and to labour market developments in the areas in which they operate.

The course, delivered to 20 young participants from Sarroch, Villa San Pietro, Pula and Capoterra, lasted a total of 240 hours. The course was particularly innovative, with a mix of classroom teaching, practical training (at a workshop in Villa Siotto in Sarroch) and work experiences in the workshops of partner companies.

The Saras Group is one of the main European oil refining operators, and is also active in the electricity generation sector. Directly and through its subsidiaries, the Group sells and distributes petroleum products on national and international markets. In addition, the Group produces and sells electricity through its subsidiaries Sarlux Srl (IGCC plant) and Sardeolica Srl (wind farm). The Group also supplies industrial engineering and research services to the oil, energy and environmental sectors through its subsidiary Sartec Srl.
