Saras Group and the values of the territory

The communities in the area in which the Sarlux industrial site operates are active in production, proactive in culture and sports, attentive to social needs and the environment, and have strong ties to their traditions.

The Group interacts with these communities by sharing values and objectives and supports their projects – in line with its corporate Purpose – that have the greater impact and value for the territory, aimed at supporting the social fabric and enhancing history and traditions.

Culture, social commitment, traditions and sport

We support various initiatives dedicated to cultural issues, social engagement, traditions and sports, including:

  • Shark Max Days”, which combines entertainment and education, with very popular concerts and sports events, and environment day, aimed at young pupils from schools in Sarroch and Villa San Pietro, during which, in the last edition of 2022, marine biologists from the Genoa Aquarium and our managers spoke about sustainability and the energy transition
  • the music courses of the Diapason Association, which teaches various musical genres suitable for a wide audience, ranging from rock to folk music played on the launeddas
  • the events of Muidas – Seas and Mines which ranged from a commented reading of Dante’s Divine Comedy to concerts by artists linked to the island’s cultural tradition.

As to social activities we recall the Prometheus Association, which organises events and competitions in schools to raise awareness around organ donation and provide information on transplantation. Prometheus also promotes healthy living through mental fitness classes or the practice of sports among transplant recipients, with the opportunity to participate, in Oxford, in the European transplant and dialysis sports championships (ETDSC).

The “Saras for schools” books ready to be distributed
Distribution of the “Saras for schools” books begins

The right to education is a theme close to our hearts and, over the years, we have sponsored the creation of a chemical laboratory, sports facilities equipped with defibrillators, and the organisation of seminars, workshops and financial literacy activities.

As part of the “Saras for Schools” educational programme, as every year, we have donated textbooks to around 120 pupils at the Istituto Comprensivo of Sarroch and Villa San Pietro, 226 books to supplement those already in use. The reuse of on-loan books is a good practice that students welcome.

Every year we also support an ancient and deeply felt cultural tradition that  involves directly the communities of Sarroch, Villa San Pietro, Capoterra and Nora: the celebrations of the Festa di Sant’Efisio, a Christian martyr saint, whose intercession, according to tradition, freed Cagliari from the plague in 1656.

Our workers also pay homage as the statue of the saint as it passes by the Sarlux facilities with banners, water displays, siren sounds and heartfelt devotion.

ASD Gioventù Sarroch

The shared passion for sports has led the community to boast three teams that achieve impressive results: the Sarroch Polisportiva Volleyball 2005 and the Amatori Rugby Capoterra compete in national championships, while the ASD Gioventù Sarroch, made up of young people from Sarroch, is registered in the third category football league.

The Accademia Pugilistica Sarroch participates in boxing tournaments at national level and organises numerous activities even for the youngest boxing enthusiasts.

These sports associations have thriving youth sectors and implement projects in schools to promote sports in education. This is we are proud to help these clubs to grow as sports training centres for young people.

Saras is an integral part and reference point in the community to build a more sustainable
and inclusive future for the next generation.

The Saras Group is one of the main European oil refining operators, and is also active in the electricity generation sector. Directly and through its subsidiaries, the Group sells and distributes petroleum products on national and international markets. In addition, the Group produces and sells electricity through its subsidiaries Sarlux Srl (IGCC plant) and Sardeolica Srl (wind farm). The Group also supplies industrial engineering and research services to the oil, energy and environmental sectors through its subsidiary Sartec Srl.
