#Sarasperlascuola 2020

The Saras Group promotes business awareness among high school students, with a well-structured educational programme that includes workshops, conferences, educational visits, meetings with teachers and dedicated events for schools, also in collaboration with other cultural institutions.

The aim of the #educational courses is to introduce high school students to the core values of the Saras Group’s corporate culture.

Over the past five years, more than 1000 students have taken their work experience with us (under a scheme which is part of their educational curriculum, now renamed Soft Skill and Orientation Paths – PCTO). This has given them a direct view of the complex system of skills and technological innovation that underpins a large industrial group, and a first taste of the world of work.

The project Saras for schools 2020 is based on the successful partnership of the Saras Group with Anpal Servizi. Together, we have worked with five schools in Sardinia, designing an educational project including conferences at the schools, visits to the refinery and thematic workshops.

The technical high schools involved – Istituto Scano of Cagliari, Asproni-Fermi of Iglesias, ITI of Tortoli, Loi Carbonia and Gramsci of Tonara – were selected because of the good match of the school subjects with the skills sought by our Group and of the strong interest expressed by the schools and the students.

One hundred fifty students (30 from each school) with their teachers participated in five meetings with Group managers on the themes of environmental sustainability, workplace safety, human resources, training, management and company organisation.

The course aims to develop: knowledge of the Sarlux refinery’s production processes, technical skills appropriate to each school syllabus and soft skills in the areas of teamwork, effective communication, critical thinking and career planning.

The project delivers 60 hours of training to each participating group.

It starts with conferences held at the schools by Saras Group managers and engineers who outline the Group’s history, its corporate organisation, production processes, innovation focus and the philosophy underpinning the operations of all the Group companies, as summarised in the mission statement.

Next comes the tour of the industrial site: one morning spent at the Sarlux refinery. The visit starts with a safety course when entering the site. Next, students are hosted in a conference room on-site to hear presentations on environmental sustainability, the refinery’s production processes, industry 4.0 and the #digitalsarasprojects.

The morning ends with a guided tour of the North plants onboard the ‘Street art’ shuttle bus.

At the end of the school year, the project closes with a final event in which all stakeholders share the project experience and results.

The Saras Group is one of the main European oil refining operators, and is also active in the electricity generation sector. Directly and through its subsidiaries, the Group sells and distributes petroleum products on national and international markets. In addition, the Group produces and sells electricity through its subsidiaries Sarlux Srl (IGCC plant) and Sardeolica Srl (wind farm). The Group also supplies industrial engineering and research services to the oil, energy and environmental sectors through its subsidiary Sartec Srl.
