Sarlux 2023 Environmental Statement
Our corporate culture prioritising the safety of people and the environment, together with our history as a responsible company, aware of its role, are key factors for the sustainable development of the Saras Group.
Our Group’s activities have always been characterised by a strong focus on sustainability, through projects and investments aimed at cutting emissions and increasing the energy efficiency of the Sarroch refinery, to help to achieve the EU’s decarbonisation targets.
Since 2008, the Sarlux refinery has voluntarily joined the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), and since 2009 Sarlux has published an annual Environmental Statement.
As required by the EMAS Regulation, each issue and/or update of the Environmental Statement is made available to the public after the data contained in the Environmental Statement are validated for Sarlux by LRQA Italy, an accredited and independent environmental verifier, and after submitting the statement for review to the competent entities.
The 2023 Environmental Statement certifies all the efforts that the Sarlux refinery devotes to creating sustainable value by deploying advanced technologies that boost production as well as sustainability and protection of the environment.
This statement is one of the key tools of our dialogue with internal and external stakeholders, facilitating an open and transparent relationship with the local community, public agencies and our own people, who play an active role in the effective implementation of our environmental policies.
This comprehensive disclosure promotes awareness of the safety, health and environmental protection measures that make the Sarroch industrial site a source of wealth for the local community in which we are rooted.

The Saras Group, founded by Angelo Moratti in 1962, is one of Europe’s leading players in the energy and oil refining industry. Through its parent company Saras SpA and subsidiaries Saras Trading SA, based in Geneva, and Saras Energia SAU, based in Madrid, the Group sells and distributes oil products in the domestic and international markets. The Group is also active in the electricity generation sector through its subsidiaries Sarlux Srl (IGCC plant) and Sardeolica Srl (wind farm). The Saras Group has about 1,576 employees and revenues of about EUR 15.8 billion as at 31 December 2022.
