Students from the Giua High School learn about sustainability

The Saras Group’s education and training initiatives aimed at students continue in this school year too; the goal is to “share knowledge”. We believe that conveying the importance of development based on process innovation, the application of advanced technologies, and the enhancement of intellectual capital is essential to promote the culture of sustainability, a driving force to ensure the economic growth of companies is compatible with the preservation of the environment.

For the school year 2022-2023, as part of the ministerial programme “Soft Skill and Orientation Paths” (PCTO), the Group has planned 6 specific training programmes together with 6 high schools in the province of Cagliari and Ogliastra.

The “Michele Giua” High School was the first to be involved and, between November and December, students participated in an intensive programme of lectures and plant tours.

They examined in depth the sustainability of production processes at the Sarlux site through good production practices that increasingly improve the ecological footprint of all processes.

We demonstrate the skills needed in today’s job market, within the new scenarios proposed by the energy transition, to young people entering the world of work.

Topics and activities

The PCTO project “Sustainability, evolution and efficiency in production processes” involved about 250 students on the topics of sustainability, energy, distillation and conversion processes, power generation and occupational safety.

The topics, curated by Group experts and managers, included: lectures on the technical aspects that most closely match the school’s syllabus; a visit to the Sarlux plant for students in their final year; sharing of the project work; a presentation on the expectations of businesses in terms of CV preparation and self-presentation.

As part of the PCTO, which lasted 20 hours overall, final year and first year students enrolled in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cagliari visited the refinery for a Q&A session with students from the Giua high school and to participate in a focus meeting, with the Group’s experts, on industrial process studies.

The day at Saras was the one that interested me the most because it was closest to my field of study.
Giulia

The PCTO with Saras was definitely useful because I had the opportunity to experience first hand a work environment related to my course of study.
Luca

I would have like the project to have more practical sessions… balanced with the lectures
Fabiano

Consistent with its tradition of being an integral part and reference point in the community through Group companies, Saras shared with students its industrial operation and conveyed the message that we can create long-term value by acting responsibly and by continuously improving performance.

The Saras Group is one of the main European oil refining operators, and is also active in the electricity generation sector. Directly and through its subsidiaries, the Group sells and distributes petroleum products on national and international markets. In addition, the Group produces and sells electricity through its subsidiaries Sarlux Srl (IGCC plant) and Sardeolica Srl (wind farm). The Group also supplies industrial engineering and research services to the oil, energy and environmental sectors through its subsidiary Sartec Srl.
